Read the holiday table

The selector displays the years currently published in the Federal Reserve Board's K.8 schedule. The holiday dates below come from that schedule. The last column applies the Reserve Bank observance rule so you can identify the date that matters for ACH settlement. A star in the listed date belongs to the official table: one star indicates a Saturday holiday and two stars indicate a Sunday holiday.

Use this page to check the calendar before you choose an effective date. A date on the Board's schedule is not automatically a Friday bank closure. K.8 distinguishes the Board of Governors from the Reserve Banks and Branches. The timing tools use the Reserve Bank rule. The two birthday holidays have neutral month labels here; their dates come from the corresponding official K.8 rows.

Saturday and Sunday work differently

For a holiday falling on Saturday, K.8 says Federal Reserve Banks and Branches are open the preceding Friday. The Board of Governors is closed that Friday. The estimator therefore does not remove the preceding Friday from its settlement business days. Saturday remains excluded because ACH settlement does not occur on weekends.

For a holiday falling on Sunday, K.8 says all Federal Reserve offices are closed the following Monday. The tool excludes that Monday. This distinction is especially useful around Independence Day and Veterans Day in the years listed. The calendar lookup reproduces the official dates rather than predicting holidays beyond the published schedule. Read the original K.8 schedule and its footnotes.

How to use a date in a payment plan

Select the intended year and locate the holiday near your payment date. Then return to the timing estimator and enter your actual initiation time and time zone. For Same Day ACH, an open date also needs an available transmission window. For standard ACH, the estimator uses its stated next-day scheduling assumption.

If you are planning payroll, check both the intended settlement date and the earlier provider submission date. A holiday between those dates changes the business-day count. The payroll tool lets you enter a provider lead time; it does not supply a universal lead time. Keep that input tied to the instructions your provider gives you.

The calendar does not tell you whether a bank branch, customer support desk, or online transfer interface is open. Nor does it describe a bank's account posting policy. Use it for the settlement calendar, and confirm customer service hours and funds availability directly with the bank. If a date falls outside the published years, the tools stop instead of extending the calendar with unverified dates.
