Check a single payment amount

Enter the planned settlement date and the amount of one payment. Indicate whether it is an International ACH Transaction, or IAT. The checker compares the amount with the published per-payment limit that applies to the selected date and checks the IAT exclusion. A passing result means those two checks pass. It does not mean the payment has been accepted by a bank or meets every rule for its entry type.

The current Same Day ACH per-payment limit is $1 million. Nacha has approved an increase to $10 million effective September 17, 2027. The checker keeps the current and future rule separate by date. A payment planned before that effective date uses the current limit, even if you are reading about the approved increase.

Worked example: the rule change

Illustrative inputs; results are calculated from the cited calendar and schedule.
Planned date and amountAmount checkIAT status
Sep 16, 2027; $1,000,000At the applicable limitNon-IAT input
Sep 16, 2027; $1,000,000.01Above the applicable limitNon-IAT input
Sep 17, 2027; $10,000,000At the approved future limitNon-IAT input

The amount and eligibility formula

The amount comparison uses dollars and cents: a positive amount must be less than or equal to the applicable per-payment limit. The second check requires the IAT input to be no. Both conditions must pass for the displayed two-check result. The checker rejects negative amounts, zero, malformed numbers, and amounts with more than two decimal places.

Nacha's developer guide states the current amount limit and IAT exclusion. The approved future rule page supplies the future amount and effective date. Other entry-type limits may still apply under that rule. The tool therefore does not describe its result as full Same Day ACH eligibility. Read the developer guide. Read the approved future dollar-limit rule.

The limit is not a batch-splitting instruction

Use the amount of one payment, not the total of unrelated payments in a payroll or supplier file. Nacha's current dollar-limit explanation distinguishes an individual transaction from the aggregate value of a batch or file. It also states that transactions may not be restructured to evade the per-payment limit.

Do not divide a single obligation into artificial smaller payments based on a checker result. If a proposed payment exceeds the applicable limit, ask the bank which permitted payment option is available. This page does not recommend a workaround or confirm the eligibility of a particular invoice arrangement.

Amount eligibility and timing are separate checks. Even a payment within the limit must be received by the originating bank's Same Day ACH deadline. Use the windows tool to review the operator schedule, then confirm the bank's own customer cutoff and the chosen settlement window.

The selected date is used to choose the limit, not to guarantee settlement on that date. A weekend or holiday remains closed for ACH settlement even when the amount passes. Check the holiday calendar and timing estimator before planning a payment near a closure. Recheck the official rule page if your payment depends on a future rule becoming effective as published.
